Have you ever seen an ear mite? They can be very hard to see with the naked eye. We generally diagnosis ear mites based on symptoms which are most often dark ear discharge and being very itchy. Ear mites are most common in kittens and outdoor cats but can occur in any pet (dog or cat). Ear mites are one of the few problems that can be transmitted from dog to cat and vise versa.
To confirm diagnosis of ear mites, we can take a swab of the discharge and place under the microscope. Here is a video we took the other day of a cat with ear mites.
