We commonly evaluate cats that  so ago we talked to you about cats that urinate inappropriately. I had a cat come in and was urinating outside the litter box and the owner was just about at their wits end.

We testing “Barney” and he had a plug of blood in his urine. On further testing – he had bladder stones. He was urinating outside the box because he had an infection and he was in pain.

The photo shows urine after it has been spun down to show the sediment. The arrow shows the “Plug” which was primarily white blood cells.

If you have a cat urinating outside the litter box, the best thing to do is to have your cat evaluated to ensure there isn’t an underlying medical problem.
