Senior pets with minimal risk can go on rotation and only get one vaccine every 3 years.
One of the most important parts of the yearly vaccine program is the physical examination. Because pets age so quickly – they can age 7 to 10 years in one of our years and things can change quickly. We have diagnosed early stages of cancer, kidney disease, diabetes and many other problems during the routine health care examination.
Recommendation: Make an appointment to discuss the vaccination program with the vet. If the risk of kennel cough is great, a vaccine against bordetella is recommended. The rabies vaccine should be given as recommended by local law. Newer vaccines effective against specific forms of the bacteria leptospirosis may be important in some areas. The need for the vaccine should be determined based on the pets risk.
NOTE:A blood test (vaccine titers) can be done to ensure adequate protection of antibody is present in lieu of a vaccine.
