Flea dirt is the bowel movement of the flea. The winter has been inconsistently cold and we have been seeing a lot of pets with fleas. Here is a cat that is indoor only, never been outside and came in with fleas.

In this photo, you can see the hair parted and small black bits that look a lot like fresh ground pepper. That is flea dirt. To be sure, we place the “dirt” on a white tissue or paper towel and moisten with alcohol. It will turn red around the “dirt” showing that it is digested blood.

We have some safe and very effective flea prevention medications. If you have questions about flea prevention, please call us at 740-587-1129.
