What’s The Risk of Heartworm Disease in Dogs in Licking County in 2019?

I thought I’d share some numbers from the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPCvet.org) about the risk of Heartworm disease in Licking County in 2019.

Heartworm disease – 1 out of 264dogs tested positive for heartwormsIn Licking County, Ohio from January 1 to September 30, 2019.

For comparison – a few prior years were as follows:

In 2018, risk was – 1 out of 293

  • In 2015 – risk was 1 out of 342

The data in provided by IDEXX Laboratories and ANTECH Diagnostics. It is estimated these numbers represent less than 30% of the activity in the geographic regions.
